Many native animals of Val d'Aran are in peril of extinction. There are programs of reintroduction and/or protection for:
- Brown Bear (Ursus arctos)
- Rock ptarmigan (Lagopus mutus)
- Aran rock lizard (Lacerta aranica)
- Bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus)
