Datuk Ahmad Azmey Abu Talib adalah bekas Pengarah Pelajaran Pahang dan 'Tokoh Guru Kebangsaan 2012'.

Pada 16 Mei 2012, beliau dinobat sebagai 'Tokoh Guru Kebangsaan 2012' sempena Sambutan Hari Guru peringkat kebangsaaan di Kuala Kangsar, Perak. Datuk Omar Mohd Hashim terpilih sebagai 'Tokoh Guru Kebangsaan 2012'. Tokoh guru lain ialah Ahli Pemegang Amanah Yayasan Pintar, Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching; bekas Guru Besar Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Pulai, Kluang, Johor, Mohd Azman Abdul Rashid dan Tokoh Guru Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur 2011, Lim Ai Lee @ Lim Irene.Datuk Hassan Harun dari Kelantan terpilih sebagai 'Tokoh Guru Sekolah Swasta Kebangsaan 2012'. Mereka semua menerima sebutir pingat emas, plak, sijil dan wang tunai sebanyak RM10,000. Anugerah disampaikan oleh Timbalan Perdana Menteri Malaysia merangkap Menteri Pelajaran Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.[1]

Tertiary Education[sunting | sunting sumber]

After attaining his Teaching certificate from Maktab Perguruan in Kuala Lumpur in the year 1971, Dato' Hj. Ahmad Aazmey later went on to teach at a few schools in Pahang. After gaining some experience teaching, he resumed his tertiary education at Universiti Malaya, enrolling in a bachelors of arts course majoring in International relations. In 1977, after 3 years of study he finished his degree and later went back to teaching in Kuantan. A couple of schools that he taught at include Sg.Lembing and St.Thomas both in Kuantan.[2]

In 1981, he was appointed as a lecturer at Maktab Perguruan Sultan Idris, Tanjong Malim where he instructed up and coming teachers until 1984. After a successful interview process (under the Education Ministry), he was offered to study his Masters in Educational Research at Ohio University, Athens. He completed his 2 years masters in 1985 and later returned back to Malaysia, where he rejoined Institut Perguruan Sultan Idris (formerly Maktab Perguruan Sultan Idris).[2]

Notable Appointments[sunting | sunting sumber]

From the year 2003 until 2004, Dato Hj. Ahmad Aazmey Bin Abu Talib was appointed as the state education director of Pahang. During this time he brought about many important changes that propelled the improvement education in the state.[2]

Uniquely, Dato' Hj. Ahmad Aazmey is one of few individuals who can claim that he has served as special officer to 3 different education ministers. He served during YH Dato' Sri Najib Razak's tenure as education minister in 1995 to 2000 then later on in 2007 until 2009 under YB Dato' Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and lastly for a year in 2009 when YB Tan Sri Dato' Hj Mahiaddin Yassin was holding the education portfolio.[2]

From 2010 until 2017, he was appointed as Director for Education and Training for FELDA. This role was logistically challenging as FELDA settlements was all over rural Malaysia and he visited many of these rural settlements during his time as director.[2]

Then in 2012 until 2018 he was appointed to the board of directors of UMP (Universiti Malaysia Pahang) and also as chairman of UMP Advanced Education which is the adult continuing education arm of UMP.[2]
