Castrol merupakan jenama global British industri dan automotif pelincir menawarkan pelbagai minyak, gris dan produk yang sama bagi kebanyakan pelinciran aplikasi.
Sejarah[sunting | sunting sumber]
Syarikat Minyak Wakefield ditubuhkan oleh Charles Cheers Wakefield pada tahun 1899. Jenama "Castrol" berasal setelah para penyelidik menambahkan minyak jarak ke formulasi pelincir mereka.[1]
Pada tahun 1966, Castrol diambil alih oleh syarikat Burmah Oil, yang diganti namanya menjadi Burmah-Castrol. Burmah-Castrol dibeli oleh BP multinasional yang berpusat di London pada tahun 2000.[2]

Early in the new century, Wakefield took a personal interest in two sporty new motorised contraptions – the automobile and the aeroplane. The company started developing lubricants especially for these new engines, which needed oils that were runny enough to work from cold at start-up and thick enough to keep working at very high temperatures. [...] Wakefield researchers found that adding a measure of castor oil, a vegetable oil made from castor beans, did the trick nicely. They called the new product 'Castrol.'
