Gereja Assyria Timur[a], kadangkala dipanggil Gereja Timur[5][6] dan rasminya dikenali sebagai Gereja Suci Apostolik Katolik Assyria Timur,[5][7][b] ialah sebuah mazhab Kristian Timur Suryani yang mengikuti Kristologi dan eklesiologi tradisional Gereja Timur.[9] Ia tergolong dalam cabang timur Kristian Suryani, dan menggunakan Liturgi Ilahi Santo Addai dan Mari milik Ritus Suryani Timur. Bahasa sembahyang utamanya ialah Suryani Klasik, sebuah dialek Aram Timur. Rasminya dikenali sebagai Gereja Timur sehingga tahun 1976, ia kemudiannya dinamakan semula kepada Gereja Assyria Timur,[10][11] dengan patriarkatnya diwariskan secara turun-temurun sehingga kematian Shimun XXI Eshai pada tahun 1975.
Gereja Assyria Timur secara rasmi beribu pejabat di bandar Erbil, di utara Iraq; kawasan asalnya merangkumi Iraq, tenggara Turki, timur laut Syria dan barat laut Iran, lebih kurang sepadan dengan Assyria purba. Katolikos-Patriark semasa Gereja Assyria Timur, Mar Awa III, ditahbiskan pada September 2021.
Gereja Assyria Timur mengakui kesinambungan dengan Gereja Timur bersejarah, dan bukan dalam perhubungan suci dengan gereja Katolik, Ortodoks Oriental atau Ortodoks Timur. Puak Gereja Timur asal yang memasuki perhubungan suci penuh dengan Takhta Suci antara abad ke-16 dan ke-19 ialah Gereja Katolik Kaldea, yang ahlinya kebanyakannya beretnik Assyria. Selepas Perisytiharan Kristologi Bersama pada 1994 antara Gereja Timur dan Gereja Katolik, dan dialog teologi tahun 2001 antara gereja-gereja, mereka menyediakan garis panduan untuk orang beriman mempunyai kemasukan bersama ke Ekaristi antara Gereja Katolik Kaldea dan Gereja Assyria Timur.[12]
Gereja Assyria Timur mempunyai struktur episkopal tradisional, diketuai oleh Katolikos-Patriark. Hierarkinya terdiri daripada uskup metropolitan dan uskup dioses, manakala klerus rendah terdiri daripada imam dan diakon, yang berkhidmat dalam keuskupan (eparki) dan paroki di seluruh Asia Barat, India, Amerika Utara, Oceania, dan Eropah (termasuk Caucasus dan Rusia).[13]
