Apabila entiti angkasa yang membawa kebinasaan dikesan menghampiri Bumi, Laksamana Kirk kembali mengambil alih pemerintahan Kapal angkasa Enterprise dan diperintahkan untuk memintas, memeriksanya dengan harapan untuk menghentikannya.
