Re FYI

Hi Arctic. Any editor worth his salt would investigate a candidate up for election, what more a sysop. Wouldn't it be foolish for a user to vote for a serial vandal (not you, just as an example) as admin on his wiki? I'm just doing my job as sysop by sizing you up, it's nothing personal and I do it for every candidate. I'm sure you'll agree with my stance.

I've voted No. Again, it's not personal. My main problem is your command, or lack of, of the language. In my case it would have also helped had you declared your being involved in an indefinite block at Commons and en-wiki. I would have read the discussion and made up my mind independently, but having to find out after a search at SUL leaves a rather bad taste in the mouth. And although I voted no, I'll abide by the final vote. I've invited the 'crats to add their input in this rather unusual case. I'm moving the discussion here in order not to clog up GP.

I'm no expert with the camera but I think you're a very good photographer. Your photos are superb. I met several bird photographers while watching raptors at Fraser's Hill some time ago. They were a very patient bunch of people, patiently explaining their cameras and lenses to me.

Back to your question regarding images: the best advice I can give you is to ask yourself what exactly you want to do with the photos because at the end of the day, you own them. Uploading means adding to people's understanding of a certain subject because Wikipedia is first and foremost an encylopedia. Content comes first before anything else. Photos add to understanding. I believe this appeal to the altruistic side of people is the main factor that accounts for the attraction many contributors have to Wikipedia. But if you do decide to upload, be aware of the implications of the licence. Wikipedia is set up a certain way and we have to accept the conditions (which by the way I think are entirely reasonable) if we want to contribute.

On the other hand, you may want to retain rights to your photos — maybe you want to sell them later, publish a book on birds, etc. People can't see or use your photos for free but there's no harm in that. Many people make a living this way including those great wildlife photographers whose work appear in National Geographic, the Geographical, etc. If this is the case, don't upload. Like I said, no harm in that if that's what you want to do.

I'm sorry you got into trouble before, but hey, sometimes we learn the hard way. As far as I'm concerned at least you're decent enough to own up and, as far as I can see, humble enough to accept advice. That's why I have plenty of time for you.

If you find someone who's acting like a complete ar*e (Brit spelling :-) ), and there are many around, just ignore him. Try not to show him the finger, just ignore him. Think of the big picture: Wikipedia's readers and how they will benefit from our humble contributions. (Of course, as a sysop, you can't help but deal with those ars*h***s, and that's the downside to being an admin.)

Hi.

I just copied your photos to Commons because they looked nice and I thought they would be usefull to many wikis.

I checked Fail:Australian Sea Lion (pup), Jun 2012, Kangaroo Island, South Australia.jpeg and everything looked nice so I started my bot. I did not notice your text on some of the files not to copy to Commons (the bot does not understand text - it only reacts to templates).

I later found out that you have uploaded files to Commons and that they were deleted for several reasons. So I think the files I just copied to Commons should be deleted again untill the problem is solved.

Do you still want to keep the files on ms-wiki or do you want them deleted?

I not sure, but as I say, my device is auto log-in (3G). Possible reason is my device log in at public wifi at the mosque (being Friday at 12pm). I do not usually log-in at public wifi. Oh!!!! Notice the "Ralat ungkapan: Kendalian bagi * tiada" It mean the coordinate is not updated. (Tiada=Missing) If you check the sources "|latd = " should have value for location. I'm posting here because of the comment you made at MGA73's talk page. I would gladly help you with understanding CC licensing, and following that, would try to help you get unblocked at Commons - if that were your wish. I'd also like to apologise for what happened at Commons, and my part in it (I'm also sorry if I said things that you took personally, I didn't mean it personally, but to explain the situation, although I admit I may have veered to the wrong side of civil). It got out of hand rather quickly, and it wasn't a good experience, or outcome for anyone. For my part, I didn't think you were actually a minor, if I had of known your age (which I think I do now) I would have agreed with a courtesy delete. This isn't to say that a minor isn't capable, but that we should be more forgiving (which we collectively, and I personally, were not.

Regarding your pictures here, you should know that they can at any time be used for any reason anyone wants, so long as they credit you and link to the license. There are a number of us that will try to stop them transferring to Commons, but that may happen in the future, there are files uploaded in 2005 that are still being moved from wikis to Commons, so it may take over eight years, but it will probably happen at some stage.

When ever you want some help with the CC license, just ask me, I'll be as patient as possible, and try my best to answer all the questions you ask. But, it might be best for you to finish your school exams first, and when you have some free time you can learn CC licenses.
