Jumlah bilangan korban orang awam dan tentera dalam Perang Dunia I sekitar 40 juta: julat anggaran dari sekitar 15 hingga 22 juta kematian[1] dan sekitar 23 juta kakitangan tentera tercedera, menjadikannya dalam kalangan persengketaan paling membawa maut dalam sejarah manusia.
