Patologi merupakan cabang bidang perubatan yang berkaitan dengan ciri-ciri dan perkembangan penyakit melalui analisis perubahan kepada fungsi atau keadaan bahagian badan.

Patologi terdiri daripada patologi anatomi dan patologi klinikal. Ahli patologi anatomi membuat kajian dengan mengkaji organ manakala ahli patologi klinikal mengkaji perubahan pada fungsi yang nyata.

Cabang

Patologi secara lazimnya terbahagi kepada dua cabang utama, yakni patologi anatomi dan patologi klinikal. Kadangkala, ahli patologi terlibat dalam kedua-dua cabang, yang lazimnya digelar sebagai patologi am.

Patologi anatomi ialah cabang patologi yang berkait dengan diagnosis penyakit berdasarkan pemeriksaan organ, tisu dan badan secara kasar, mikroskopik, kimia atau molekul. Cabang ini terbahagi kepada beberapa bahagian seperti patologi pembedahan, sitopatologi dan patologi forensik.

Patologi klinikal

Patologi klinikal ialah cabang patologi yang terlibat dalam diagnosis penyakit berdasarkan analisis makmal perubatan terhadap sampel-sampel badan seperti darah, air kencing dan tisu dengan peralatan-peralatan kimia, mikrobiologi klinikal, hematologi dan patologi molekul. Para patologi klinikal bekerjasama dengan tekologis perubatan, pentadbiran hospital dan pegawai perubatan. Kadangkala, istilah "pakar makmal perubatan" digunakan untuk merujuk kepada pekerja patologi klinikal seperti doktor perubatan, doktor farmakologi dan penerima doktor falsafah.
